What I Actually Do as a Web Developer (A Quick Skill Rundown)
If you’ve ever wondered, “Wait, what exactly does she do?” – you’re not alone.
Web development can feel a little abstract from the outside. It’s not just typing code into a blinking cursor. It’s part tech support, part strategy, part design, part detective work, and part “figure it out no matter what.”
Here’s a quick rundown of what I actually do – and how it might help you.
🧱 WordPress Builds & Customization
I build websites using WordPress + Elementor Pro, always starting with a fast, clean base.
- I use the Hello Elementor theme to keep things lean, secure, and speedy
- I recreate designs from bloated themes without bringing the junk with me
- I disable Gutenberg completely and streamline the backend to keep things user-friendly
Most of my builds are custom layouts using Elementor’s tools, with minimal plugin reliance.
🎨 Design Implementation
I started my career as a web designer, and I’m an expert in Photoshop – so I absolutely know my way around layout, hierarchy, and visual polish.
That said, I don’t focus on full visual branding these days. Instead, I:
- Offer template-based starting points to make things easier for clients
- Customize everything with their colors, content, and style
- Prioritize UX and clarity over trendy visuals
- Can rebuild just about any design I’m given inside Elementor (no bloat required)
🛒 eCommerce (Magento, WooCommerce, Shopify)
This was my main specialty for 15+ years — particularly large-scale Magento builds (both Community and Enterprise editions).
I’ve worked with:
- Magento 1 & 2 – full custom builds, enterprise-scale stores
- WooCommerce – not my favorite, but I know it well
- Shopify + Shopify Plus – strong familiarity with setup, theming, and third-party apps
I’ve helped stores manage everything from multi-warehouse inventory to complex tax integrations and checkout customizations.
Even though I don’t seek out eCommerce work these days, I bring that knowledge into every site – especially when you’re selling anything online.
🧩 Features & Integrations
Need your site to talk to other platforms, automate processes, or connect to your internal tools?
I handle plugin setup, API connections, and third-party integrations, including:
- CRMs & Email Tools: MailChimp, Klaviyo, Retention Science
- Automation Platforms: Zapier
- Payments: Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Afterpay
- Accounting & Tax: Avalara, Netsuite
- Monitoring: New Relic
- Analytics: GA
And lots of one-off or embeddable tools
If it can connect to WordPress, I’ve probably made it work.
🛠️ Troubleshooting & Repair
Something broken?
Whether it’s a layout glitch, a plugin conflict, or a form that stopped sending, I can track down the issue, fix it, and leave the rest of your site untouched.
I’ve been called in to rescue dozens of sites – sometimes after a client tried to DIY, or a previous dev ghosted.
🧰 Maintenance & Performance
Websites need care behind the scenes. I offer:
- Regular plugin & core updates (done safely)
- Backups, uptime monitoring, and security scanning
- Speed audits and performance tweaks
- Cleanup of old junk slowing your site down
You get the peace of mind without the surprise breakdowns.
👀 Accessibility & Mobile Optimization
I focus on making sites work everywhere and for everyone.
- Mobile-first layouts using Elementor’s responsive settings + custom breakpoints
- Proper heading structure and readable spacing
- Tap-friendly buttons and tested interactions
- Color contrast, focus indicators, and screen reader-friendly elements
Accessibility isn’t optional – it’s part of the build.
📈 Strategy & Support
I don’t just launch and leave.
Clients come to me for:
- Advice on site improvements or UX tweaks
- Analytics & conversion insights
- Platform decisions and roadmap planning
- Long-term support and transparent communication
I help you figure out what actually matters for your site – not what a random YouTube tutorial says.
✨ The Joy Bonus
I care a lot about your website working well – and about you feeling confident using it.
My job is to make things easier, not more confusing. So whether it’s a new build, a tiny fix, or just a second opinion, I’m here to help.
💬 Final Thoughts
Web development isn’t just coding – it’s clarity, collaboration, and smart decisions. I bring 25+ years of experience and a lot of care to every project I touch.
